INCA JUNGLE 4 DAYS / 3 NIGHTS

Duration:     4 Days / 3 Nights

Frequency:  Every day

DAY 1: CUSCO – SANTA MARIA

We pick you up at 10 a.m. in our private transport, and head to Ollantaytambo, in the Sacred Valley. From here our vehicle takes us over Malaga pass (4,200 m) before descending through beautiful scenery to Santa Maria, where we spend the night in a homestay. During dinner the guide will brief you on the trip the next day.

Another option is to make the descent by bicycle.

DAY 2: SANTA MARIA – SANTA TERESA

After a good breakfast, we walk across the Vilcanota River by a footbridge, and we are on our way. During the day’s walk, we have the opportunity to appreciate the variety of local fruits grown here. They include bananas, mangoes, and oranges. We head into the cloud forest (jungle) by a narrow, barely visible path, passing crops of coffee, cassava and coca leaf, and climbing to a high point that offers a breathtaking view. We can also see our finishing point for the day. We enjoy lunch at a family home, and walk a little further to the Cocalmayo hot springs, which are set in a lovely landscape out of doors. We bathe in the refreshing waters for 25 minutes, then continue to the village of Santa Teresa where we spend the night.

DAY 3: SANTA TERESA – AGUAS CALIENTES

We start walking at about 7.30 a.m. After about 2 hours, we cross the Urubamba River. In another 2 hours we arrive at the hydroelectric plant, and stop for lunch. From here we have two options: to take the train (45 minutes) to Aguas Calientes, or to walk (about 2 hours), depending on how we feel. At dinner in Aguas Calientes, our guide will brief us about the next day.

DAY 4: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO

We start at 4.30 a.m. to make the most of our time at the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. It takes about 2 hours to walk up to the site. You have the option of taking the bus (25 minutes). Our guide will walk us through the highlights of Machu Picchu in a 2½ hour tour, then we have time to explore on our own. Popular choices are Huayna Picchu (which means ‘young mountain’ in Quechua) and the Temple of the Moon. Many just enjoy the peace you can feel in this sacred place. In the afternoon you will return to Aguas Calientes half hour before the departure time of the train that will take us back to the city of Cusco. In Cusco we transfer you to your hotel.
